VIÑALES.

Viñales is a National Park of Cuba that, in 1999, was declared a Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is located in the province of Pinar del Rio, 178 km from Havana.
An impressive work of nature, located at the western end of the island. An exceptional landscape surrounded by mountains and dotted with spectacular limestone outcrops that rise up to 300m abruptly from the dome-shaped valley plain, called “Mogotes”. unique of its kind in Cuba and very rare to find in other countries. Endemic flora and fauna, a system of caves and underground rivers and tobacco plantations are places declared “biosphere heritage”.
Colonized at the beginning of the 19th century, it is home to an original culture, a synthesis of the contributions of indigenous peoples, Spanish conquistadors and African slaves. Its inhabitants continue to use traditional agricultural practices for the production of the recognized best tobacco in the world, due to the fact that mechanical methods reduce quality. It is essential to visit the Mogotes and the famous Cuban tobacco plantations. The trip to Viñales will allow you to feel in touch with exuberantly green, tropical nature, full of pure oxygen. On the way you will find country towns where you can make small stops to rest, eat or drink something and continue towards your destination.

The town of Viñales has preserved its colonial and vernacular architecture of its farms, where a rich multi-ethnic society lives, which illustrates the cultural development of the Caribbean islands and Cuba.

VARADERO.

Trip Advisor has unveiled the ranking of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. In SECOND place in the list is the magnificent and famous beach of Varadero, 22 km. Of natural beaches with very fine sand and transparent, warm and calm waters, to please body and mind under the Caribbean sun.

The Hicacos Peninsula was sighted in 1508 during a voyage of exploration by the Spaniard Sebastián de Ocampo. For a time, some ships accidentally ran aground on the local sandbanks, or these were used to beach the boats and repair them, hence the origin of the name of Varadero. The documentary references of the place date back to the 16th century.

The foundation date of Varadero dates back to December 1887, since in the mid-nineteenth century Cubans came to spend the summer seasons to enjoy the sea. However, it was the Americans who first recognized the natural benefits of Varadero at the beginning of the last century, where in the 1920s many Cubans and Americans established their residences along the beach after the closure of the resorts. Europeans following the First World War. Then began the transformation of what was a simple fishing village first into a summer resort and then into one of the most famous destinations in the Caribbean.

The first hotel was built in 1915 and bore the name of Varadero, but it is from the 1950s onwards when we witness a first “boom” in the construction of hotels, Varadero, which today houses more than fifty modern and comfortable lodgings, many managed by renowned international chains, these are hotels with an “all inclusive” offer and whose architecture is in harmony with nature.

Undoubtedly the main charm of Varadero is the beach, 22 kilometers long and a strip of very fine white sand with an average width of 700 meters, while the height of the coastal dune is just over a meter. It is known throughout the world as the “Blue Beach” because its sea reflects all the shades of that color, creating an impressive spectacle for the greatest joy of the senses. Its climatic conditions are very advantageous for the stay and enjoyment of holidaymakers at any time of the year, as it combines pleasant temperatures (25º C on average), few days with rain, low humidity and twelve hours of sunshine a day. This is known as the “Varadero effect”.

Synonymous with excellence, Varadero beach stands out for the cleanliness and transparency of the sea, the absence of underwater vegetation and rocks, the smoothness of the underwater slope and the shallow water (it is only 1.80 meters 70 meters from the shore). One of its great attractions is the possibility of practicing nautical activities, such as catamaran trips to nearby islets, jet skis, sport fishing, snorkeling or diving. And also, a visit to the dolphinarium where it is possible to swim with these wonderful creatures.

Traveling towards Varadero beach on the Vía Blanca, you pass over a long bridge located over a deep gorge created by the Bacunayagua River.

The Bacunayagua bridge was built between 1956 and 1959. It is considered one of the Seven Wonders of Cuban Civil Engineering due to its size and characteristics. Strategically on the west side of the bridge, a viewpoint has been built on an elevation from which you can admire this building and the beautiful landscape of the Yumurí Valley that surrounds it.
